Magpies

I know that they are common but they are beautiful all the same, spectacularly black and white. My partner (who’s a bird expert) says that they are reputed to eat mostly in the mornings then spend the rest of the day looking for trouble to get into. If Loki were a bird, he’d be a magpie

They write that a magpie’s brain to body size ratio is similar to that of humans: This nidopallium is essentially responsible for executive function and other complex higher functions. The size of this part of the brain in magpies strongly suggests that they are also capable of complex expressions of intelligence such as biting their own tongues, and getting into fights at football matches.

Okay, sure, it’s funny. But a magpie would never get into a fight at a football match. Magpies are golfers, stealing the balls or pushing them further into the sandpit, or maybe playing tricks on other birds by putting golf balls in their nests to make them think they have an egg. That’s a magpie move.
