We just did a climb that we did three years ago, and it’s so much harder now.
We talked afterwards about how hard it is to accept slowing down with age. It’s happening whether I want it to or not but that doesn’t mean accepting it is any easier.
We met a man last summer who seemed to accept what he can do and not do now in the mountains. He’d climbed 8000 meter peaks. Now he’s happy for a day climb with his friends. I wonder if this is another case of ‘fake it ‘til you make it’? Except that used to mean overselling yourself, and for me, now, it means learning to like what you can’t do anything about.
