I was tired and let my boyfriend drive. He fell asleep at the wheel. I woke up from napping in the passenger seat to see a wall of cement hurtling towards us. We didn’t kill anyone. We didn’t kill ourselves. The only damages to the car is a bent rim and a ruined tire.
I can’t even start to believe how lucky we were. That could have been the end. That could have been the beginning of a life in a wheel chair. That could have been the last day that I could think clearly, or that last day without continual pain. That could have been the day we inflicted that on someone else and then had to try to live with the consequences.
There are so many reasons to be thankful for small things. There are an infinite number of reasons to be grateful for the large ones.
I’m so very lucky to be alive today. It’s a wonderful thing!
