Clipping on a Smile

I went for the mask with the smiley face. I didn’t think I’d want to wear a mask, or a mask with a smiley face but it’s fine. There’s also the fact that the reusable ones available mostly have old-lady-underwear patterns (flowers and anchors and things like that). They might be perky looking, but I don’t want them on my head.

I just learned that an old friend of mine had an accident and died. I had to get on the train after getting the news and put on my mask, and it hit me what a metaphor the mask is. Sad? Clip on your happy face for the world to see. Angry? Upset? Clip on the happy face. I’ve been doing that for years, but now it’s an actual, real mask.

Should have thought of that earlier.

Foro’s checking out my mask, but he doesn’t need to. He’s always happy.
