I know that the world is going to hell in a hand basket, but personally I’m in a good place at the moment. Maybe some of you are, too, so let’s take stock of what’s going well, at least on my end.
I saw an old friend last week, who I haven’t seen in ten years (we fall in and out of touch). She’s doing so well. She’s become a potter, but making truly beautiful porcelain objects. Some are practical (cups, bowls) others are ostensibly water containers or vases but too large for that. They’re beautiful. On a personal level, her roommate is lovely, her pets are adorable, and she’s in good health (which hasn’t always been the case, so this is excellent news). I’ve met so many wonderful people in this world.
Second is the weather, which played along nicely last week for few days of climbing in the sun. Now that I’m home, we have a snappy cold that just makes everything feel crisp. I don’t have to be out in it that much, so that’s good as well; I can just sit under a blanket on the couch and look at the sun setting over cold mountains.
Third is my own health, which is pretty blasted good at the moment. I’ve been having foot problems and the pain has calmed down considerably. I’ve missed the last few bad colds and flues that have been going around, or had milder versions of them. So healthy, and actually sleeping pretty well at the moment. All good.
It may be hard in the future to have much optimism, or to believe in good things or good people, but it may be all we’ve got. Somewhere along the line, as far as humanity goes, we royally screwed up. Not all of us, not all the time, and that’s what’s important to remember. So hug your loved ones. Call an old friend. Take time to enjoy the nice weather when it comes, and good health if or when we’ve been lucky enough to have it.
