Seeing and Hearing

I can only write with my phone for this post, so it’s going to be mostly photos. Tapping with my thumbs is too annoying!

My new favorite app is called Merlin, and it’s great for identifying bird calls. Today it told me that European goldfinches were in the trees next to where I’d parked my car, so I got out the binoculars and watched for a while….and there they were. So extraordinary, so beautiful.

So that’s the ‘seeing and hearing’ of this post. Just birds.

Foro and I are hanging out, waiting for my friend to join us for a hike. I have to go meet her at the train station in about a half an hour.

The last few days have been beautiful but worrying. I tried to climb with my partner but had no force and no pleasure. It was colder than we’d thought so even in all my layers I still trembled.

We were also in a crowded hut and I just felt like there were big beefy men who wanted me not to exist, annoyed if I was in the toilet (and they had to wait!) or next in line for the coffee (and they had to wait!) or behind me on a climb (and they had to wait!) I had so little self confidence left after climbing badly that it just made me want to apologize for my existence. It likely had as much to do with me as with them, but I’m happy to be down and done. Anywho, as promised, photos!!!
