I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts

I loved the group X when I was a kid. Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom and DJ Bonebrake. I loved the pseudonyms (like the Cramps and other bands from that era).

For the last few days, their song I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts has been stuck in my head. Not a bad song to have stuck, good sentiments and all that.

I’ve kind of wondered about Exene’s second husband, how beautiful Viggo Mortensen must have been, since he’s so beautiful now as Aragorn. I saw X play once but during a period that Exene was no longer with the band. My boyfriend at the time had a Billy Zoom haircut, dyed blond and all, but when we saw them, Zoom’s hair was no longer blond. (We laughed, with The Highlander phrase, “There can be only one!”)

With all the bad in the world, I’m trying to slow down, repeating ‘I must not think bad thoughts’; I sing it, hum it, try to live it. No worries, no judgment, just being and thinking better thoughts.
